Ingredients
Scale
Meat Mixture
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup ketchup
Topping Mixture
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup Bisquick
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish or similar baking pan to prevent sticking.
- Cook Beef and Onions: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and chopped onion, cooking until the beef is browned and the onions are soft, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain any excess grease from the pan.
- Season and Mix: Season the cooked beef and onions with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir in the ketchup until everything is coated evenly, then spread this mixture into the prepared pie dish. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the meat layer.
- Prepare Topping Batter: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the Bisquick, milk, and eggs until smooth and well combined. Pour this mixture slowly and evenly over the beef and cheese layers, making sure it fully covers the surface.
- Bake the Pie: Place the pie dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes, or until the top is golden and set. Test doneness by inserting a knife into the center; it should come out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool for 5 minutes to set. Slice into wedges and serve warm. Optionally, drizzle additional ketchup on top and enjoy with pickles on the side for extra flavor.
Notes
- For a cheesier pie, add extra shredded cheddar cheese on top before baking.
- You can substitute Bisquick with an equivalent amount of self-rising flour or make your own baking mix.
- Drain excess grease thoroughly to avoid a soggy crust or greasy filling.
- Add diced pickles or mustard into the beef mixture to enhance the classic cheeseburger flavor.
- Serve with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables to complete the meal.
