Main Ingredients
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 16 ounce marshmallows (1 bag)
- 3 drops green gel food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 5 ½ cups rice krispies cereal
Decorations
- 12 pretzel sticks
- Christmas sprinkles
- 4 ounce white chocolate, melted
Instructions
- Prepare baking dish: Lightly grease a 13×9-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper and set aside.
- Melt butter and marshmallows: In a large pot, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and continue stirring over low heat until the marshmallows are completely smooth and melted.
- Add flavor and color: Remove the pot from heat. Stir in the green gel food coloring and vanilla extract to the melted marshmallow mixture.
- Combine with cereal: Fold in the rice krispies cereal until the cereal is fully coated with the marshmallow mixture.
- Transfer to baking dish: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and gently press it into the pan, being careful not to press too firmly to keep the treats soft.
- Set treats: Allow the krispie treats to set at room temperature for at least one hour.
- Cut shapes: Once set, slice the treats horizontally in half, then cut each half into triangles to form Christmas tree shapes.
- Melt chocolate: Melt the white chocolate according to the package instructions.
- Assemble trees: Carefully insert one pretzel stick into the base of each triangle to act as the tree trunk. Pipe the melted white chocolate onto each tree and sprinkle with Christmas sprinkles.
- Serve: Let the chocolate set before serving and enjoying your festive treats.
Notes
- Use fresh marshmallows and cereal for best flavor; stale ingredients will result in stale treats.
- Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
- Do not press treats too firmly into the baking dish to keep the texture soft rather than hard.
