Description

These Chicken Parmesan Sliders are a delicious and satisfying twist on classic chicken parmesan, served on soft slider buns. Tender chicken breasts are marinated in buttermilk, breaded with a seasoned mixture, fried to golden perfection, and layered with marinara sauce, provolone, and gooey mozzarella sticks. Finished with a fragrant butter topping on toasted slider buns, these sliders are perfect for parties, game days, or a fun family meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Breading

  • 2 large boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons seasoned salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, whisked
  • 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Toppings and Assembly

  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 18 frozen mozzarella sticks
  • 6 slider buns

Butter Topping

  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese, grated

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Butterfly each chicken breast and cut the seam to create two thinner slices approximately 3/4 inch thick. Cut each piece into halves or thirds to match the size of your slider buns. If needed, gently pound the chicken to flatten it evenly using wax paper.
  2. Marinate Chicken: Place the buttermilk in a thick gallon freezer bag and add the chicken pieces. Seal the bag and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for best flavor and tenderness.
  3. Set Up Breading Stations: In bowl one, combine flour, seasoned salt, and black pepper. In bowl two, whisk the eggs. In bowl three, mix breadcrumbs with grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley.
  4. Bread the Chicken: Remove chicken from the buttermilk bag and allow excess to drip off. Dredge each piece first in the flour mixture, then dip into the whisked eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Bake Mozzarella Sticks: Preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Arrange the frozen mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and bake for 7 minutes. Remove from the oven and set aside.
  6. Cook Chicken: Reduce oven heat to 350 degrees. Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the breaded chicken pieces until golden brown on each side, about 4 minutes per side. Remove from heat and set aside.
  7. Assemble Sliders: Place the bottom halves of the slider buns in a casserole dish. Layer each with cooked chicken pieces, spoon marinara sauce over the chicken, top with provolone slices and baked mozzarella sticks, then cover with the top bun halves.
  8. Butter the Buns: In a small bowl, combine melted butter, sea salt, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, fresh parsley, and Parmesan cheese. Brush this butter mixture generously over the tops of the slider buns.
  9. Bake Sliders: Cover the casserole dish with foil and bake in the 350-degree oven for 8 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 3 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown and toasted on top.
  10. Serve: Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve the sliders warm. Enjoy your flavorful Chicken Parmesan Sliders!

Notes

  • Slider Buns: Use soft buns about 4 inches in diameter for perfect slider size; bakery or store-bought buns work well.
  • Buttermilk Substitutes: Use 4 tablespoons milk mixed with enough sour cream to make 1 cup; or 2 tablespoons milk with plain yogurt to 1 cup; or 1 tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice plus milk to 1 cup, let sit 5-10 minutes until curdled.
  • For crispier chicken, fry in oil instead of pan-searing before baking the sliders.
  • You can prepare the chicken and breading a day ahead and refrigerate for convenience.
  • Use homemade or high-quality marinara sauce for the best flavor.
