Description

Reindeer Food is a festive and fun holiday treat made with corn or rice Chex cereal coated in a delicious mix of melted chocolate, butter, and peanut butter, then dusted with powdered sugar and mixed with mini peanut butter cups and colorful red and green M&M’s. This easy-to-make snack is perfect for holiday parties or to leave out for Santa's reindeer on Christmas Eve.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 8 cups corn or rice Chex cereal
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup mini peanut butter cups
  • 1 ½ cups red and green M&M’s

Instructions

  1. Melt Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, add the butter, peanut butter, and chocolate chips. Heat over low heat while stirring frequently until the chocolate chips are completely melted and smooth. Remove from the heat.
  2. Add Vanilla: Add the vanilla extract to the melted mixture and stir until fully combined.
  3. Prepare Cereal: In a large bowl, add the Chex cereal.
  4. Coat Cereal: Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the cereal and stir until all of the cereal is evenly coated with the chocolate mixture.
  5. Add Powdered Sugar: Add the powdered sugar and stir until the mixture is completely coated and no longer sticky.
  6. Mix In Candy: Add the mini peanut butter cups and red and green M&M’s, folding them in carefully until they are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Notes

  • You can use almond butter instead of peanut butter for those with peanut allergies.
  • A double boiler can be used to melt the chocolate chips for better temperature control.
  • Store the reindeer food in an airtight container or storage bag at room temperature for up to 1 week.
  • To freeze, place the reindeer food in a freezer-safe container or freezer bag and freeze for up to 2 months.
