Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons salted butter
- 16 ounces mini marshmallows, divided
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 ¼ cups holiday M&M's, divided
- ¼ cup holiday sprinkles
- 5 ounces Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers, melted (1/2 bag)
Instructions
- Prepare baking dish: Line a 9-inch square baking dish with parchment paper and set aside to ensure easy removal of the treats later.
- Melt butter and marshmallows: In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add all but 1 cup of the mini marshmallows. Reduce heat to low and stir continuously until marshmallows are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Add vanilla and cereal: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the pure vanilla extract. Then add the Rice Krispies cereal along with the remaining 1 cup of marshmallows and gently fold together until well combined.
- Mix in candies and sprinkles: Fold in 1 cup of holiday M&M's and all of the holiday sprinkles evenly into the mixture.
- Press mixture into dish: Pour the cereal mixture into the prepared baking dish. Using your fingertips, gently press the mixture evenly into the pan without compacting it too hard.
- Add toppings and chill: Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the top and sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of holiday M&M's on top. Optionally, add a pinch of extra sprinkles for decoration. Allow the treats to set at room temperature for one hour before cutting and serving.
Notes
- You can use any variety of holiday M&M’s, such as milk chocolate or peanut butter; however, peanut butter M&M's may add extra crunch.
- Always use fresh marshmallows and cereal to ensure your treats are soft and fresh, as stale ingredients lead to stale treats.
- Jimmies (little log-shaped sprinkles) are preferred for their soft texture and appearance; quins (flat circle or shaped sprinkles) are also suitable. Avoid nonpareils for best results.
- Feel free to swap out holiday candy and sprinkles to suit any holiday or theme you prefer.
- Store your Rice Krispie treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
- You can freeze these treats for up to 3 months in an airtight container for longer storage.
