Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (5-8 oz. each)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup flour
Sauce & Cooking
- 4 tablespoons butter, divided
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 1/2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup chicken broth (optional)
Garnish (Optional)
- Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped
Instructions
- Make the sauce. Whisk together the honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar in a small bowl until well combined.
- Prepare the chicken. Pound the chicken breasts to an even 1/2-inch thickness using a meat mallet to ensure even cooking. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Dredge the chicken. Coat each chicken breast in flour, shaking off any excess to avoid clumping.
- Sear the chicken. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Place the chicken breasts in the skillet and sear on one side for 4-5 minutes until golden brown.
- Flip and sear. Turn the chicken breasts over and sear on the other side for 1-2 minutes.
- Add garlic and butter. Reduce the heat to medium and melt the remaining tablespoon of butter in the skillet. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
- Cook in sauce. Pour the prepared honey soy sauce mixture over the chicken. Allow it to simmer until the sauce thickens and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Make it saucier (optional). For a saucier dish, add 1/4 cup chicken broth to the skillet and simmer further to combine flavors.
- Coat and garnish. Turn the chicken in the sauce to coat both sides thoroughly. Remove from heat and sprinkle with fresh parsley or chopped green onions if desired.
- Serve. Plate the chicken and enjoy this delicious honey garlic butter chicken while warm.
Notes
- Use smaller boneless, skinless chicken breasts (5-8 oz. each) for best results. If breasts are large, slice them in half lengthwise to create cutlets for even cooking.
- To make the dish saucier, add 1/4 cup chicken broth during the simmering step.
- Add a bit of heat by sprinkling red pepper flakes when adding the garlic to the butter.
- Brighten the flavor by adding a splash of lime or lemon juice at the end of cooking.
- For extra flavor, garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or green onions.
- Ensure the chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F for safety and juiciness.
