Ingredients
Scale
Ham
- 8 pound bone-in spiral-cut half ham, smoked or uncured
Glaze
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 cup pure maple syrup
- ½ cup Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 275°F to prepare for slow baking the ham evenly.
- Prepare Glaze: In a small bowl, combine honey, maple syrup, and Dijon mustard. Whisk thoroughly until smooth. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
- Prepare Ham: Line a deep roasting pan with parchment paper. Unwrap the ham from its packaging and place it flat-side down in the pan.
- Add Brown Sugar: Rub brown sugar over the top and sides of the ham evenly to add sweetness and help caramelization.
- Bake Ham: Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil. Place the ham in the oven and bake for about 15 minutes per pound. For an 8-pound ham, bake for approximately 2 hours until heated through.
- Apply Glaze: Remove the foil and pour the prepared glaze evenly over the ham’s surface.
- Broil Glaze: Set the oven to broil. Place the ham back in the oven uncovered and broil for 5 to 8 minutes. Watch closely to prevent burning while allowing the glaze to caramelize and brown nicely.
- Serve: Remove the ham from the oven. Let it rest briefly, slice, and serve warm.
Notes
- Use a bone-in spiral-cut ham for even cooking and easy slicing.
- Adjust the broiling time to prevent the glaze from burning; it should just caramelize.
- You can substitute Dijon mustard with whole grain mustard for added texture.
- If using an uncured ham, expect slightly different flavor notes compared to smoked ham.
- Let the ham rest for 10 minutes before slicing to retain juices.
