Description

Delicious and easy-to-make pigs in a blanket featuring hot dogs wrapped in crescent roll dough with melted American cheese, brushed with a flavorful butter and spice mixture. Perfect as a snack or appetizer, served with classic condiments like ketchup and mustard.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 hot dogs
  • 2 slices American cheese
  • 1 package crescent roll triangle dough
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Butter Mixture

  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

For Serving

  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Maldon salt or flaked sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and line a medium baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare crescent dough: Take the crescent roll dough out of the can and keep it intact. Gently pull it into four rectangles by pinching the middle of the triangles together so they stay connected when cutting and rolling.
  3. Cut dough into strips: Using a pizza cutter, slice each rectangle into three long strips about 3/4-inch by 4-inches, yielding twelve strips total.
  4. Prepare hot dogs and cheese: Cut each hot dog into thirds, resulting in twelve pieces. Cut each slice of American cheese in half and then into thirds, making six small pieces.
  5. Assemble rolls: If desired, lightly brush each dough strip with Dijon mustard. Place one piece of cheese at the bottom of the strip, then top with one piece of hot dog. Roll tightly and place seam side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake: Bake the pigs in a blanket in the preheated oven for 12 minutes, until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  7. Make butter glaze: While baking, melt the salted butter in a small saucepan and stir in garlic powder and onion powder to create the flavorful butter mixture.
  8. Finish and serve: When the pigs in a blanket come out of the oven, brush them with the spiced butter mixture and sprinkle with flaked sea salt. Serve warm with ketchup, mustard, and additional Maldon salt as desired.

Notes

  • Pinching the crescent dough triangles together ensures the dough stays intact when rolling.
  • Using a pizza cutter helps create neat and even dough strips.
  • You can substitute American cheese with cheddar or any melty cheese of your choice.
  • For a spicier kick, add a dash of cayenne pepper to the butter mixture.
  • Serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
