Ingredients
Scale
Avocado Fries
- 1 large avocado (ripe but slightly firm)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (more as needed)
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 tablespoons non-dairy milk (plain, unsweetened)
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- Oil spray
For Serving
- Chipotle mayo (store-bought or homemade, vegan)
Instructions
- Cut avocado: Cut the avocado in half, remove the peel and pit, then slice into 1/4-inch thick pieces.
- Prepare coatings: In a small shallow bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper. In a second bowl, pour the non-dairy milk. Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
- Coat avocado slices: Working with one slice at a time, coat it first in the flour mixture, then dip into the non-dairy milk, and finally press it into the panko breadcrumbs to coat both sides thoroughly.
- Arrange in air fryer: Place the coated avocado slices in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Spray the slices lightly with oil spray to promote crispiness.
- Air fry: Cook the avocado fries at 400°F for 12 minutes without preheating until golden brown and crispy. Season with additional salt and pepper immediately after cooking.
- Serve: Serve the crispy avocado fries hot with vegan chipotle mayo for dipping.
Notes
- Use one hand for the dry ingredients and one hand for the wet ingredients when coating to prevent clumping.
- Oven method: Preheat oven to 425°F. Arrange the coated avocado fries on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spray with oil, bake for 10 minutes, flip, spray again, and bake for another 10 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Serve these fries fresh for the best texture and flavor.
- Alternative dips like vegan Dijon aioli can also be served.
